This movie takes place in the 90s, so that's good.
Its about a girl (Phoeby Cates) who has an imaginary best friend, Fred (Rik Mayall), who she is separated from.
Dont worry Fred comes back when she is an adult and her life is shit.
Fred is ridiculous. He fucks shit up and of course fixes everything, well he fixes the big stuff for the right people, in a round about kinda way.
My sisters and I must have watched this movie over a hundred times when we were growing up, but it is really really not a kids movie...
Also Carrie Fisher is really great in it as the best friend of Phoebe Cates.
Look at her give naggy advice.

Maybe because there is a child in the movie my mom figured it was okay.
